Mobile Home 10% of sale to site owner

James Good made this Rhyddid Gwybodaeth request to Housing and Regeneration Directorate (Scotland)

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear Housing and Regeneration Directorate,

will your Ministry consider abolishing the 10% of the price of a mobile home that the home owner has to pay to the site owner'

The mobile home owner still has to pay rent for the plot that the home stands on.

Mobile home owners feel that the 10% is profiteering and that the site rent covers all.

Yours faithfully,

James Good

Mr Good,

Thank you for your email asking for the Scottish Government’s position on
the payment of 10% commission on the sale of a residential  mobile homes.
As you may know we reviewed this issue following public consultation last
year and we decided that retaining the current commission rate strikes the
right balance between the interests of residents and site owners.

The sales commission issue was subject to a public consultation.  This
included a Business Regulation Impact Assessment (BRIA) in which a series
of options considered the case for removing the rate, reducing the rate,
looking at the business model that contributes the successful operation
and effective maintenance of attractive, viable sites. We considered the
cost/benefit analysis, the views of residents, etc. The full BRIA and the
background policy development can viewed via web link:-

More generally, we published a guide setting out the rights and
responsibilities of mobile home owners in Scotland, to coincide with the
changes to the implied terms coming into force on 1 Sept 2013, a copy of
which is available online:

I hope this information is helpful
