Microprocessor knee funding

NHS England did not have the information requested.

Dear NHS England,

Please can you consider my request for a microprocessor knee. I lost my leg aged 18 and have worked hard to ensure that my disability has not affected my passion to be successful in my career. I have worked full time as a teacher for 14 years and have secured a position as a leader in a large comprehensive high school for 7 years. My job is physically demanding and requires me to be active for a considerable amount of my working day. I currently have to consciously think about every step that I take to ensure that I do not fall, even though I am overly cautious I fall often. This is emotionally and physically exhausting. My limb centre is fully supportive of my request for a microprocessor knee and have advised that I would benefit considerably from a C leg. I am passionate about my career and have proven success in making a positive contribution to the students that I teach. I have however come to a point in my life where I feel that I can not continue to be effective in my job without a limb that will support me physically. I can no longer continue putting my health at risk and will have no choice but to leave my career if I continue to fall on a daily basis. I sincerely hope that you consider my request for a microprocessor knee. I believe that this limb will enable me to continue working in a career that I have worked so hard to be successful in.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Rachael Doherty
