Dear Newcastle University,

Dear Sir/Madam

Please I have some questions regarding the 2012/13 admissions cycle for Medicine. I hope you can reply to the questions listed below.

1. How many of the applicants were from the UK ? How many were from the EU? How many of these were successful in gaining a place?
2. What was the applicant to places offered ratio?
3. How many of the EU applicants applied with A-levels?
4. What were the UKCAT scores of the candidates that were successful in obtaining an interview?
How many GCSE's did these applicants have and what were their grades? What were these candidates' A Levels subjects and predictions?
5. What were the UKCAT scores of applicants that were rejected before the interview? How many GCSE's did these students have and what were their grades? What were their A Level predictions?
6. How are interviewees assessed? Is there a standard form that the interviewers use? Please can this form be made available? I am interested in the 2013/14 cycle, is the same form always used?
7. What were the interview scores of the successful and unsuccessful candidates?

Thanks for your time.

Yours faithfully,

Josephine

Dear Josephine,

Thank you for your request for information received on 7 June 2013. Our answers to your questions are detailed below.

1. How many of the applicants were from the UK ? How many were from the EU? How many of these were successful in gaining a place?
2. What was the applicant to places offered ratio?
- Please see the attached file for the data you require in these two questions.

3. How many of the EU applicants applied with A-levels?
- We are not able to provide this information. We do not centrally record the qualifications of all applicants, so we would have to manually search through all application forms to locate and retrieve this data. We estimate that to do so would exceed the 18 hour limit set out in the FOI fees regulations. We are therefore refusing this part of your request under section 12(1) of the FOI Act.

4. What were the UKCAT scores of the candidates that were successful in obtaining an interview?
How many GCSE's did these applicants have and what were their grades? What were these candidates' A Levels subjects and predictions?
- The UKCAT scores of those interviewed are contained within the attached file. We have supplied some information on school leaver qualification/grade type for those interviewed in the attached file, but we only record limited information centrally. This does not include A Level subjects or GCSEs. For the same reasons as in Q3, we are refusing this part of your request under section 12(1) of the FOI Act.

5. What were the UKCAT scores of applicants that were rejected before the interview? How many GCSE's did these students have and what were their grades? What were their A Level predictions?
- The range of UKCAT scores for those we did not interview are attached above. We do not record GCSE's or predicted qualifications for those we don't interview.

6. How are interviewees assessed? Is there a standard form that the interviewers use? Please can this form be made available? I am interested in the 2013/14 cycle, is the same form always used?
- Please see the Joint MBBS Admission Policy and example interview form attached (Note that this interview format is changing for 2014. No forms are available but potential applicants should check our website for the new Admission Policy: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/mbbs/admissions/ind...).

7. What were the interview scores of the successful and unsuccessful candidates?
- The minimum standard offer interview score was 99/110. To provide you with more detail on this would exceed the cost limit, so this is also refused under section 12(1) of the FOI Act.

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request you can ask for an internal review.
Details of how to do this can be found at:
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/foi/access/complain...

If you are not happy with the outcome of the internal review, you then have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
Details of how to do this can be found at:
