Measures to help increase, encourage and aid electric vehicles and associated technology

The request was successful.

Thomas Pemberton

Dear Barnet Borough Council,

Electric vehicles are being increasingly promoted as a low-carbon alternative to conventional combustion engine vehicles. Some local authorities have therefore introduced measures to increase uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology (eg. charging infrastructure) within their local authority area such as providing free parking for electric vehicle owners, procuring electric vehicles as part of the local authority fleet or mandating charging points as part of all new development.

1a) What measures to date have been put in place by your local authority to encourage, increase and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology by residents within your local authority area? Please provide details of each measure.
1b) Are any future measures being considered by your local authority to encourage, increase and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology by residents within your local authority area? If so, please provide details of each measure.

2a) What measures to date have been put in place to encourage, increase and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology within your local authority fleet and amongst local authority staff? Please provide details of each measure.
2b) Are any future measures being considered to encourage, increase and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology within your local authority fleet and amongst local authority staff? If so, please provide details of each measure.

3a) What measures to date have been put in place by your local authority to encourage, increase and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology by businesses who are located within your local authority area? Please provide details of each measure.
3b) Are any future measures being considered by your local authority to encourage, increase and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology by businesses who are located within your local authority area? If so, please provide details of each measure.

4a) What planning measures have been put in place to encourage, increase and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles within your local authority area? For example, do you require a set standard of EV charging spaces as part of a new residential or commercial development? Please provide details of each measure.
4b) Are any future planning measures being considered to encourage, increase and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles within your local authority area? If so, please provide details of each measure.

Information request

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Mr Pemberton

Freedom of Information Act 2000

I have been forwarded some more information that is relevant to your
enquiry- apologies but this is possibly the messiest reponse I have ever
written but I believe that it is pertinent to your request.

2a) What measures to date have been put in place to encourage, increase
and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology
within your local authority fleet and amongst local authority staff?
Please provide details of each measure.

The depot at Oakleigh Rd and the new business center at Colindale have
electric charging points for Ev's.

EV cars and vans have been on trial by the departments and suitable ones
are in the replacement program.

A new fleet of Electric Street Cleansing vehicles are now deployed around
the borough cleaning the streets and shopping centers.

2b) Are any future measures being considered to encourage, increase and/or
aid the uptake of electric vehicles and associated technology within your
local authority fleet and amongst local authority staff? If so, please
provide details of each measure.

Electric RCV's are being actively investigated with manufactures and with
other councils.

Also the increase numbers of charging points in the Borough helps with the
range problems of EV's.

Q.4 What planning measures have been put in place to encourage, increase
and/or aid the uptake of electric vehicles within your local authority
area?

Barnet Copthall is subject to the following planning condition:

Before the development hereby permitted is first used full details of the
electric vehicle charging points to be installed in the development shall
be submitted to the Local Planning Authority and approved in writing.
These details shall include for the provision of 20% active and 10%
passive parking spaces with electric vehicle charging facilities. The
development shall be implemented in full accordance with the approved
details prior to first occupation and maintained thereafter.

Therefore, 150 parking spaces in Barnet Copthall = 30 active points and 15
passive (for the future)

The same applies but with a 10% active and 10% passive at Victoria
Recreation Ground, therefore:

70 spaces = 7 EV points and 7 passive (for the future)

Please let me know if you ahve any questions.

Yours sincerely
