Dear Northumberland County Council,
Please find below my FOI request regarding malicious emails sent to the council.
The date range for the requests is from 2018 to present day. The data shall include a breakdown by year.
1. How many malicious emails (e.g. phishing emails) have been successfully blocked?
2. What percentage of malicious emails were opened by staff?
3. What percentage of malicious links in the emails were clicked on by staff?
4. How many ransomware attacks were blocked?
5. How many ransomware attacks were successful?

Hi Rebecca,
Please see the response below sent on the 1st December 2022.
Please accept our apologies for the response not arriving at its
destination, we are experiencing intermittent problems with the system we
use to log and process requests. This has been reported and is currently
being investigated.

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST
I refer to your Freedom of Information request in relation to Malicious
Emails
Right of Access
Section 1(1) of the Act provides any person making a request for
information to a public authority is entitled.
(a) to be informed in writing by the public authority whether it holds
information of the description specified in the request (which Section
1(6) of the Act designates as the "duty to confirm or deny"), and
(b) if that is the case, to have that information communicated to him.
The right is to obtain access to the information itself and not to the
document or record which contains it.
The Act creates a general right of access to information held by public
authorities subject to various exemptions.
Northumberland County Council confirms that it holds the information you
have requested, please see the following information in response.
Q.1 How many malicious emails (e.g. phishing emails) have been
successfully blocked? - 2870
Q.2 What percentage of malicious emails were opened by staff? - we cant
get this information
Q.3 What percentage of malicious links in the emails were clicked on by
staff? - we cant get this information
Q.4 How many ransomware attacks were blocked? to open ended this one...we
have blocked 45 malicious files in the last year
Q.5 How many ransomware attacks were successful? - 0
