Dear Gambling Commission,

Please find below my FOI request regarding malicious emails sent to the department.

The date range for the requests is from 2018 to present day. The data shall include a breakdown by year and by individual departments (e.g. separate departments, agencies, or public bodies within the main government agency), if applicable.

1. How many malicious emails have been successfully blocked?
2. What percentage of malicious emails were opened by staff?
3. What percentage of malicious links in the emails were clicked on by staff?
4. How many ransomware attacks were blocked by the department?
5. How many ransomware attacks were successful?

Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

 

The Gambling Commission’s response to your enquiries are as follows:

 

1. How many malicious emails have been successfully blocked? 12,028 (95
malware, 11,933 phishing)

2. What percentage of malicious emails were opened by staff? We do not
hold this data

3. What percentage of malicious links in the emails were clicked on by
staff? We have no reported incidents where staff have clicked on a
malicious link in this time period

4. How many ransomware attacks were blocked by the department? We do not
hold this data

5. How many ransomware attacks were successful? None

 

Please note, we only hold data relevant to the request for the last 90
days, we have run the report for the 90 days prior to 24/11/2021. There
were 719,942 emails recorded in that period.

 

 

Review of the decision

 

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
Freedom of Information request and wish us to conduct a review of our
