Dear Kent County Council,

I am seeking all information Loose Road, travelling North toward Maidstone. The specific location is the left hand (nearside) bend, when travelling toward Maidstone, at the commencement of the one way system where the Loose Road (A229) joins Sheal’s Crescent.

I ask to be provided, for the past 3 years (from 01/01/2014):

1. the contracted maintenance schedule for the road
2. the actual maintenance undertaken, to include gully clearing, drain inspections and attention etc.
3. the number of incidents at the location involving vehicles, cycles and pedestrians
4. the number of occasions the location is known to have flooded
5. the identified cause of the flooding
6. the measures undertaken to prevent, remedy and warn of flooding and
7. the occasions upon which these have been instigated

Thank you for your request for information regarding drainage and flooding
at the junction of Loose Road and Sheals Crescent, Maidstone. I am pleased
to provide the response below:

 

1.the contracted maintenance schedule for the road

The current cleansing frequency for drains on main roads including Loose
Road and Sheals Crescent is once per year.

 

2.the actual maintenance undertaken, to include gully clearing, drain
inspections and attention etc.

Our maintenance records indicate that operatives attended Sheals Crescent
to carry out yearly inspections and maintenance on the following dates:

-        25^th November 2015 – Works complete

-        6^th October 2016 – Unable to complete works – additional traffic
management required

-        31^st October 2017 – Works complete

 

3.the number of incidents at the location involving vehicles, cycles and
pedestrians

Details of all drainage and flooding reports can be found in the attached
FOI – Customer Service Reports. Enquiries are logged against specific
roads so we have enclosed information for both Sheals Crescent and Loose
Road.

 

4.the number of occasions the location is known to have flooded

5.the identified cause of the flooding

The flooding on the junction of Sheals Cresent and Loose Road generally
occurs during prolonged and intense downpours which cause the drainage
system to be overwhelmed.

 

6.the measures undertaken to prevent, remedy and warn of flooding

Dates and details of the works undertaken in response to reports of
flooding can be found in the attached FOI – Maintenance Management
Reports. Again, works orders are raised against specific roads so we have
enclosed information for both Sheals Crescent and Loose Road.

 

7.the occasions upon which these have been instigated
