Thank you for your request for information, which we received on 3 August
2021.  Please accept my apologies for not acknowledging your request which
was an oversight on our part.

Please find below your request and our response.

Request / Response

 1. The original cost, including all equipment and installation of the car
park barrier that was placed at your Longley car park site.

We do not hold this information.  The barrier was originally installed
over 12 years ago and we no longer have the records to provide the
information requested.

 2. What was the cost to dismantle?

The barrier was dismantled by an in-house team so no specific costs were
recorded

 3. Reason why it was originally installed?

To improve management of the car parking facilities at the Longley Centre
so these could be restricted to staff, service users and their visitors,
of SHSC FT. At the time there had been evidence of misuse by unknown
members of the public and/or staff from the adjacent work site (Northern
General Hospital) which is managed by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals

 4. Reason it was NOT used?

The barrier was used for a period of time.

 5. Reason why the authority has willfully wasted public money in this
fashion, and have you learnt from your mismanagement of public funds?

The barrier did not prove to be as effective as originally planned and
there were various occasions when staff or visitors damaged their
vehicles  by misuse of the barrier (not adhering to clearly shown
instructions for use). Eventually a decision was taken at executive level
to stand down the barrier and move to a managed parking option using a
parking management company.
