Listed building at risk, Marlborough House, 54 Old Steine, Brighton.

James Plant made this Freedom of Information request to Brighton and Hove City Council This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Brighton and Hove City Council,

This request relates to a Grade 1 listed building which is on the "Heritage At Risk Register" compiled by English Heritage. The building in question is Marlborough House at 54 Old Steine, Brighton.

Marlborough House was built in 1765 and remodelled by Robert Adam in 1786. It has stood empty and appears to have been left to rot for some years now.

What steps has Brighton and Hove City Council taken to identify the owner, or leaseholder, and ensure that Marlborough House is being maintained, repaired and not allowed to decay since 1 April 2009?

Has Brighton and Hove City Council sought, or considered, a compulsory purchase order for this property? What procedures were taken in relation to this if so?

From 1 April 2009, what action, if any, has Brighton and Hove City Council considered, or taken, in relation to the failure to maintain, put this property in to use, or even to see it is occupied?

Yours faithfully,

James Plant
