Dear Cambridge City Council,

Under the FOI Act 2000

I would like a list of all licensed food outlets in Cambridge. I would appreciate it if it had the following information for each outlet.

1. name of Business
2. Address and postcode
3. Name of Owner (if not exempt from FOI Act)
4. Contact email (if not exempt from FOI Act)
5. Contact phone no (if not exempt from FOI Act)

I would greatly appreciate the information in a table or excel format.

Thanking you,

Peter Lal

Dear Mr Lal,

Freedom of Information Request

Ref. No.: 4149

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated the 20^th July
2015. In your request, you have asked for the details of all of “the
licensed food outlets in Cambridge”. However, as your question leads to a
number of uncertainties, I would be grateful if you could clarify your
request.

Food businesses are registered, and as such, we have a register of food
businesses. The details of the vast majority of the food businesses in the
City are already available on-line via the Food Standards Agency Food
Hygiene Registration Scheme (FHRS) website; those that are not listed are
based in private addresses, and as such are exempt from the FHRS and would
also be exempt from the FOI legislation. The address of this webpage is
given in this link; [1]http://ratings.food.gov.uk/ .

We do have a number of food businesses that also hold a licence, usually
for the sale of alcohol or to stay open past 23.00, and these may be
considered as Licensed Food Businesses. If this is what you wish, please
let me know, and I will forward your enquiry to my colleagues in our
Licensing Team who will be able to assist you.

Also, you use the term “outlet”. As this term can potentially describe a
number of types of food businesses, again, I would be grateful if you
could clarify the types of food businesses you wish information about.

Please accept my apologies for seeking this clarification, but as you will
appreciate, it is important that we do provide you with the actual
information you seek,

Yours sincerely

Frank

Dear Frank (Harrison),

Thank you very much for the reply. Apologies for the follow up. The information provided via the Food Standards Agency would be sufficient. However it does not contain email or phone details of the propertier. Is there anyway to obtain this information also?

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Peter Lal

Frank Harrison, Cambridge City Council

Dear Mr Lal,

The information held on the Food Hygiene Ratings Scheme (FHRS) pages is, as you will have seen, the name and address of the food business, but does not usually contain the contact details as you require. The only public document that holds the contact details of the food business operators, is the register that we hold. This is available to the public, but due to the administrative effort we have to go through to prepare this, we do make a charge for its preparation and distribution. With this consideration in mind, and if you do still wish us to provide you with the information, please contact me to let me know which businesses you wish the information for, I will then inform you of the cost of obtaining this information.

Considering the above, and depending upon the nature of the communication you wish to have with the food businesses, you may find it easier to contact those businesses you select individually to see if they are able to give you the specific contact details you wish; the FHRS webpages does give the postal addresses, so you could consider a posted mail-shot, although these are known not to be very effective at soliciting a response.

I hope this is helpful, but should you wish to contact me again, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me again,

Yours sincerely

Frank

Dear Mr Harrison,
Thank you very much for the reply. I would like to ascertain the costs of purchasing this information. What I require are contact details (inclusive of email and phone details) for ALL food outlets in Cambridge. Could you please let me know the cost via reply email? Or should I contact you via the phone number on your email signature?

I look forward to hearing from you,

Yours sincerely,

Thanking you in advance,

Dear Mr Lal,

Thank you for your email.

As your email is not precise about what information you wish to obtain, please allow me to give a breakdown for obtaining all of the information I previously mentioned.

Our current cost for the provision of a paper version of our entire food register is currently £816.00, but I do caution that whilst the information held on it was accurate at the time of compilation, due to the age of some of the registrations and the failure of businesses to notify us of significant changes, a proportion of the information is likely to be incorrect. To obtain this, please send me a formal request, including full details to whom I should send the appropriate invoice, and we will dispatch the printed food register upon receipt.

Should you wish to obtain the already public information about those food businesses in Cambridge which are in the public domain, their names and addresses are available via the Food Hygiene Ratings Scheme which is operated by the Food Standards Agency, and is accessible via their web pages. Via this, you will be able to obtain the names and addresses of all publically accessible food businesses throughout most of the UK. The web page for accessing this information is; http://ratings.food.gov.uk/ .

I hope this provides you with the information you require,

Kind regards

Frank
