Jeff Prescott (Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust - 020), Hywel Dda University Health Board

Dear Alan Taylor,

Please see the emails below. Your request for information has been passed to the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust as all 999 calls for an ambulance in Wales are handled by the Trust.

In order to answer your query, the Trust would first need to clarify the following:

Your request has asked for data from each full calendar year since the inception of Hywel Dda University Health Board which was founded on 1st October 2009. Therefore, would the data be acceptable from 01/10/2009 - 01/10/2018, giving you 9 full years of data?

In addition, the way in which calls were categorised was changed in 2015 in line with the new Clinical Response Model. The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust has never had a 'Category A' call classification. Instead, prior to 2015 the most serious category of call was 'Red 1'. After 2015, the most serious category of call was Red'. Assuming that by 'Category A' you meant the most serious incidents, the Trust would interpret you request as follows;

'Dear Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust,

Which emergency medical dispatch (EMD) system do you use to prioritise emergency calls?

For each complete calendar year from October 1st 2009 - October 1st 2018, please state the number of 999 emergency calls that were categorised as either Red1 or Red (the most serious and life threatening), using the EMD codes and where the patient was situated in Pembrokeshire.

For each of the above category Red1/Red calls, please state which hospital the patient was initially removed to, and by what means. car, ambulance, air ambulance etc.'

Could you please confirm whether this interpretation is correct and satisfactory in order to answer your query?

Your request will be held until clarification is received.

Regards

Jeff Prescott.

Dear FOI HywelDda (Hywel Dda UHB - Freedom of Information),

Thank you for forwarding my FoI request to the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust I apologise for troubling you with it.

The dates you have quoted are acceptable to me. As you say they will provide me with a full nine years of data. I am sorry that I did not make it clearer in my question.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Taylor

Dear Katie Jenner,

On 24 October, in response to a FoI question sent erroneously to Hywel Dda you said “The UHB has therefore forwarded your request onto WAST for processing, they will be in contact with your directly in due course.”

To date, 15 November, I have not heard from WAST and my request is not available on their website. Can you please advise when my request was forwarded and to whom?

Thank you.

Alan Taylor
