Lidl Bridge Road Property Sales

We're waiting for G Stephens to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Stockton on Tees Council,

As Lidl are to be building a store on Bridge Road and demolishing numbers 17 to 33, which and correct me if I'm wrong, all seem to be under the ownership of Stockton Borough Council/council tax payers . Can you tell me how much Lidl has paid for all the buildings - preferably on an individual basis, and how much was paid by the council and dates purchased showing whether the council/tax payer has made a net gain or loss. Also are any incentives of any sort being offered.

Yours faithfully,

G Stephens

Dear G Stephens

Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Ref: 0211/1920

Thank you for your correspondence received on 26 April 2019. In response
to your request I can now provide the following information.

As Lidl are to be building a store on Bridge Road and demolishing numbers
17 to 33, which and correct me if I'm wrong, all seem to be under the
ownership of Stockton Borough Council/council tax payers . Can you tell me

basis, and how much was paid by the council and dates purchased showing
whether the council/tax payer has made a net gain or loss. Also are any
incentives of any sort being offered.

The Council has not yet completed the sale to Lidl in respect of the land
and buildings off Bridge Road, Stockton.  The Council entered into a
conditional contract with Lidl in 2018 and there are still a number of
conditions that needs to be satisfied by Lidl before the sale can
complete.  Lidl has therefore not paid the Council as yet for the site.
In respect of any incentives being offered, there are no incentives
offered to Lidl within the contract.  In terms of purchase prices and
dates of acquisition this information is publically available from Land
Registry.  Please note in respect of the following buildings the Council
received funding from Homes England to purchase these buildings:

•           17 Bridge Road, Stockton

•           Riverside House, 33 Bridge Road, Stockton

•           19-23 Bridge Road, Stockton.

If you have any queries or concerns please contact me in the first
instance.

However, if you are unhappy with the way your request for information has
been handled, you can submit a complaint to

If, after your complaint has been determined, you remain dissatisfied with
the handling of your request or complaint, you have a right to appeal to

Dear FOI and Complaints,

Hi there
According to rightmove the only building listed is no.17 which was purchased in 2008 at a cost of £250000. Please can you confirm costs of the other buildings if they are known to you. As Homes England is specifically to provide funding for social housing does this mean the council will need to refund them the monies used to purchase the properties you noted?
What is the figure that the council has accepted /is headlining the conditional contract and what are these conditions?

Yours sincerely,

G Stephens
