Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

I am conducting a research product in order to ascertain the total number of Library fines that were paid at universities in the UK.

I am therefore writing to ask about library fines during the academic year 2016/2017, under the Freedom of Information Act. For the time period starting from the first day of term, covering the next 364 days (e.g. one full year), please provide:

1. The total amount of money the library received from the payment of overdue items. Exclude costs of replacing lost books if possible – this request solely relates to the cost of items that are returned later than their due date.

Many thanks, and do let me know if you require any further clarification

Yours faithfully,

Jack Forks

Your Request

I am conducting a research product in order to ascertain the total number
of Library fines that were paid at universities in the UK.

I am therefore writing to ask about library fines during the academic year
2016/2017, under the Freedom of Information Act. For the time period
starting from the first day of term, covering the next 364 days (e.g. one
full year), please provide:

1. The total amount of money the library received from the payment of
overdue items. Exclude costs of replacing lost books if possible – this
request solely relates to the cost of items that are returned later than
their due date.

Our Response

1. The total amount of money the library received from the payment of
overdue items. Exclude costs of replacing lost books if possible – this
request solely relates to the cost of items that are returned later than
their due date.
The total income from fines and lost books for the Library Service for the
academic year 2016-2017 was £5,484.89.

It is not possible to separate out lost books as against fines, however.
Fines are not charged now for anything other than the late return of
requested books. Fines have been discontinued for standard loans.

Appeal Process

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review.  Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your
original email and should be emailed to: [1][email address] or sent in
writing to Peter Cox, Chief Operating Officer, Falmouth University, Penryn
Campus, Treliever Road, Penryn, TR10 9FE.

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future
communications.

the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision.  The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information
Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9
