LBC Request : Bariatric Rescues

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service,

1. I'd like to know how many bariatric rescues the fire service was called out to attend, for each financial year, from 2013 to 2018?

Could you divide all information, by financial year?

Also, if possible, could you provide any details that you can to these rescues - (e.g.) the location type, the rescue required, number of crews called or age of person attended to?

2. Can you also provide the amount spent by the fire service on bariatric-related training and equipment, divided by financial year?

If possible, can you again provide details - so models, hoists, lifting equipment etc.?

I wish to be informed in writing whether you have such information and, if so, I seek the disclosure of that information. If the information is covered by any exemptions, please disclose such information as is not covered by the exemptions.

If you are considering charging for the disclosure of this information, please inform me before any work that would be liable to a charge is carried out.

Yours faithfully,

Rachael Venables

I write in response to your request for information, received and
acknowledged on 31 July 2018.

Decision

The information you have requested is held by the Devon & Somerset Fire &
Rescue Service (DSFRS).

Please find below the detail of the information you have requested along
with our response.

Request

1. I'd like to know how many bariatric rescues the fire service was called
out to attend, for each financial year, from 2013 to 2018?

Could you divide all information, by financial year?

Also, if possible, could you provide any details that you can to these
rescues - (e.g.) the location type, the rescue required, number of crews
called or age of person attended to?

2. Can you also provide the amount spent by the fire service on
bariatric-related training and equipment, divided by financial year?

If possible, can you again provide details - so models, hoists, lifting
equipment etc.?

Response
1. Please see the attached Spreadsheet with details that we hold.

You will see we have provided the total number of bariatric incidents we
have attended rather than the number of persons rescued at a bariatric
rescue. (‘Rescued’ – A person who has received physical assistance to get
clear of the area involved in the incident - therefore the total number
would be a lot lower.) If you wish us to look at bariatric rescue
information, please let us know.

2. DSFRS has only procured the following bariatric equipment in the last
few years:

Purchase Order       Supplier
Items
      Total cost (excl. VAT)

22/02/2018                 3ET                             6 x EvacPro+
stretchers, middle size bari slings, pole sets and carry bags
            £7,410.00

10/04/2018                 Ruth Lee Ltd               1 x 90kg adult
manikin with overalls and
holdall                                                           £561.20

1. Please see the attached Spreadsheet with further details that we hold.

The data shows bariatric incidents we have attended.  Details have been
provided where a victim has been recorded for an incident.  We are unable
to provide the rescue location as this is only recorded for primary fires
and not bariatric incidents.
