Landfill Tax. Recycle income

The request was successful.

Dear Argyll and Bute Council,

How much was paid in landfill tax over the last three years?

How much is spent diverting waste that would have been landing as landfill waste over three years?

How much was generated by paper/cardboard and plastic waste collected over three years?

Yours faithfully,

John Brown

Administrator, Argyll and Bute Council

Dear Sinclair, David (Risk Management Assistant),

Rather than plastic etc that's placed in landfill bins by residents- how much in regards sorting it out. As I know in Fife they are spending region 2 million from memory stopping rubbish that should not be going to landfill therefore saving on tax imposed on landfill rubbish

Yours sincerely,

John Brown

Dear Mr Brown,

Request for information: Landfill

Reference: argyllbuteir: 11255

I refer to your request for information which was dealt with in terms of
the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs).

Please see below information in fulfilment of your request.

1.    Landfill tax paid over the last three years is as follows:

•           16/17 - £2,715,444

•           17/18 - £2,749,072

•           18/19 - £2,889,773

2.    There is no separately identified cost for this as our current
contracts are structured in such a way that a certain percentage of
non-target materials are tolerated. Over the last three years these
percentage levels have not been exceeded and therefore no additional costs
have been incurred. This is due in part to a combination of the nature of
the contracts, good partnership working and ’buy in’ from recycling
residents.

3.    Generated income to the Council from the sales of paper/cardboard
and plastic over the past three years is as follows:

2016/17          £24,038

2017/18          £20,884

2018/19          £14,803
