Dear Land Registry,

I would like clarification as to what your definition of Land is, both in legal Definition and layman terms.

Can you also clarify if the word definitions in the Land Registration Act 2002 use a legal Dictionary (like Blacks Law Dictionary, if so what edition?)

I would also like to know if you class a Men or Woman as Land?

Do you register Men and women as Land on your Land register?

Yours faithfully,

Mr Clue

Dear Mr Clue,

Thank you for your email of 03 January 2020 where you requested
information about the definition of land, both in legal and layman terms.
Your request was dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of Information
Act 2000.

I can confirm our response is as follows;

I would like clarification as to what your definition of Land is both in
legal definition and layman terms.

"Land" is defined in in section 205(1)(ix) of the Law of Property Act
1925, and partially defined in section 132(1) of the Land Registration Act
2002.  These are legal definitions.  You can, of course, find definitions
in "layman terms" in any dictionary.

Can you also clarify if the word definitions in the Land Registration Act
2002 use a legal dictionary?

The definitions in the Act were drafted by Parliamentary Counsel.

I would also like to know if you class men or women as Land? Do you
register men and women as land on your land register?

We would not classify men or women as "land".  We register the ownership
of land and interests in land.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me.
