MOPAC FOI, Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime

Dear Global Radio

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request of 3 November to the
Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC).  I confirm that your
request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and
that MOPAC does hold information relating to your request, as follows:

Q.1         I would like to know how many schools in London have requested
a handheld knife wand from The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime since
June 2017.

A.1         Letters outlining the process to access wands were sent to
schools at the end of October. To date, MOPAC have received 72 requests
for wands.

Q.2         How many schools in London have received a handheld knife wand
from The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime since June 2017.

A.2         Wands are distributed via the MPS – they have distributed  76
wands to date.

Q.3         How many schools in London have requested a knife arch to be
installed from The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime since June 2017.

A.3         None

Q.4         How many schools in London have received a knife arch from The
Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime since June 2017.

A.4         None

Q.5         How many schools in London have requested a dedicated police
officer on site since June 2017.

A.5         The MPS do not keep a central record of schools that request a
dedicated officer. However, the MPS offer all schools in London the
opportunity of contact with a named Safer Schools Officer (SSO). There are
currently 300 SSOs across London working in partnership with 639 secondary
schools, in line with the Police and Crime Plan commitment. The number of
schools officers is managed locally and reported as part of the MPS
business plan, which is monitored by MOPAC.

If you are unhappy with the response to your Freedom of Information
request, please see the MOPAC website on what the next steps are at:
