Dear Emily Devonald

Thank you for your request for information from Durham University.
Colleagues have provided the information below in response to your
questions.

1.What is the expenditure on KEF Staff salaries

Information not held.  The University does not allocate staff to ‘KEF’,
The KEF being an exercise to assist “universities to better understand and
improve their own performance, as well as provide businesses and other
users with more information to help them access the world-class knowledge
and expertise embedded in English HEPs”.

2.How many staff members' role is directly linked to KEF? Has this number
been increasing/decreasing?

One staff members role is directly linked to the coordination of the KEF
return (though not substantively). Within Research & Innovation Services,
23 staff roles can be clearly linked to KEF reported activities.

3.What type of activities do you report to KEF?

Information not held. Templates will be published in Spring 2021. Details
on overall areas are available on the [1]KEF website and [2]HESA coding
manual (HEBCI)

4.What is the 'impact' of KEF activities? How do you quantify their
'impact'?

The KEF itself is designed to provide a quantifiable measure of the
‘impact of Knowledge Exchange Activities and will be published in spring
2021.

5.What is the annual expenditure on tracking/reporting Knowledge Exchange
activities?

Nil.

6.What is the annual expenditure on IT software relating to REF, TEF and
KEF?

Nil.
