Dear Ms Devonald,

Freedom of Information Act Request - our reference 2021-027

Further to your email of 27 January 2021 asking for information from
Oxford Brookes University about KEF statistics, I am able to provide the
following information in response to your request.

You asked:

For the past two academic years: 2018-2019 2019-2020

1. What is the expenditure on Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) Staff
salaries?

Answer:

Oxford Brookes University does not have any staff member dedicated
solely to KEF

2. How many staff members' role is directly linked to KEF? Has this
number been increasing/decreasing?

Answer:

One.  The number is neither increasing nor decreasing.

3. What type of activities do you report to KEF?

Answer:

The KEF looks at 7 perspectives (i.e. aspects of knowledge exchange),
see link below to description of the perspectives and how they are
measured / assessed.
 [1]https://re.ukri.org/sector-guidance/publ...

4. What is the 'impact' of KEF activities? How do you quantify their
'impact'?

Answer:

The KEF metrics, see above, are the proxy for the level of activity but
there is no direct measure of impact in the KEF.  Impact is reported in
the Impact Case Studies of the Research Excellence Framework but this
does not cover all knowledge exchange activities.  There is some
consideration of impact in the Narrative Statements, to be published in
March.  Impact cannot be quantified in all cases - impact includes
change of behaviour and other qualitative effects.

5. What is the annual expenditure on tracking/reporting Knowledge
Exchange activities?

Answer:

c£4, 000 - £8,000 (proportion of gross salary of the one person
involved)

6. What is the annual expenditure on IT software relating to REF, TEF
and KEF?

Answer:

There is no specialist software used for the KEF or the TEF.  In 2018/19
we spent £16,500 on a REF module.
