2. How many staff members' role is directly linked to KEF? Has this number
been increasing/decreasing?

3. What type of activities do you report to KEF?

4. What is the 'impact' of KEF activities? How do you quantify their
'impact'?

KEF?

I look forward to your response within 20 working days, as stipulated by

Dear Ms Devonald

In response to your request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000:

For the past two academic years: 2018-2019 2019-2020

1. What is the expenditure on Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) Staff
salaries?
The Knowledge Exchange Framework is an annual assessment exercise that
captures the impact of a university’s activity in the area of knowledge
exchange. Accordingly, while we have staff employed in promoting knowledge
exchange, we have none who could be characterised as being aligned to a
dedicated framework activity. If the question pertains to those involved
in knowledge exchange that fall under the Framework descriptors, this is
potentially the entire staff base, but certainly the academic staff
cohort. If the question pertains just to a salary estimate of those
completing the Framework submission itself, it would amount to
approximately 1 month’s salary at an SG10 grade.

2. How many staff members' role is directly linked to KEF? Has this
number been increasing/decreasing?
Please see the response to question 1. The only activity that is directly
linked to KEF, would be the formal submission of the KEF documentation.

3. What type of activities do you report to KEF?
The KEF requires a statement against a number of specific activities as
listed in the KEF submission paperwork, available on their website
[1]Knowledge exchange - Research England (ukri.org). All submissions will
be made public shortly.

4. What is the 'impact' of KEF activities? How do you quantify
their 'impact'?

We estimate that the cost of ascertaining whether this information is
held, locating and retrieving it exceeds the “appropriate limit” as stated
in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations
2004.

5. What is the annual expenditure on tracking/reporting Knowledge
Exchange activities?
This doesn’t sit within one specific “unit” or activity, and includes
traditional teaching activities through to more innovative research
aspects. It is not possible to easily quantify such across the entire
organisation. See our answer to question 4 above.

6. What is the annual expenditure on IT software relating to REF, TEF
and KEF?
The University has a number of tools that capture outputs, usage of our
knowledge, information gathered through contributions to research and
enterprise, as well as tools that quantify the impact of those activities.
Within the Greenwich Research and Enterprise directorate, this amounts to
approximately £40K per year.

If you are unhappy with this response, please detail your complaints in
writing and send to the University Secretary, Peter Garrod, University of
Greenwich, Park Row, London SE10 9LS
([2][email address]).

If you are still not happy with our response after this internal review
has taken place, you also have a right of appeal to the Information
Commissioner at: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF ([3]www.ico.org.uk).

Yours sincerely
