Junior Research Fellowship Recruitment

The request was partially successful.

Dear Exeter College, Oxford,

Please could you provide me with some specific data from your Equal Opportunities Monitoring Forms for the recruitment of Junior Research Fellows/Postdoctoral Research Fellows (Stipendiary and Non-stipendiary) for the last 10 years.

I would like anonymised statistics pertaining to unsuccessful applicants' gender, age, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, and religion.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Gwendolen Bowles

The College only has retained records for the four last years of the
decade for which you have requested data. In those four years only three
JRF appointments have been advertised. This means that the sample is
already small and it is our experience that very few candidates for
academic posts return the equality monitoring forms, so the statistics
below are based on a sample of only 16 candidates who returned monitoring
forms across the four vacancies that were advertised. Please be aware also
that the categories noted under each heading below are not the only
categories included on the College’s monitoring form; they are the
categories which candidates choosing the return a form have used.

In terms of appointed candidates, the sample is already very small and
readily identifiable and the return of monitoring forms even less, so the
College is claiming exemption form that part of your request.

Please find the answers to your enquiries below.

I believe that to answer this question would be in breach of the Data
Protection Act. Only one successful candidate returned the monitoring
form, so to release the answers given would be the release of personal and
sensitive data, the anonymity of which could not be guaranteed.

If you are unhappy with how your request has been dealt with please
contact the Academic Registrar at [1][email address] to
request a review.

Best
