Dear C Bakey,

Mr Houston currently holds the following Directorships with the knowledge and approval of the current and previous senior management of the University:

Director (Chairman since May 2007), Scottish Intellectual Asset Management Ltd (I A Centre)
Director (Chairman since 2008), Dundee Cell Products Ltd (http://www.dundeecellproducts.com/about/)
Director, Targeting Innovation (http://www.targetinginnovation.com/Who-W...)
Director (Chairman since 2004), AMCET Ltd (http://www.amcet.net/index.asp)
Director (Chairman since 2005), Dundee Incubator Company Ltd (http://www.dundeeincubator.com/main/abou...)

Concerning payment for these Directorships , I understand that Mr Houston receives a modest stipend for his work with the I A Centre and refer you to a previous response by the University on this issue (available here http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ia...).

Concerning time allocated to these Directorships, I understand that Mr Houston's commitment to the I A Centre is two days per calendar month and is viewed by the University as a positive contribution to the research and business communities in Scotland. Should the other Directorships listed above require Mr Houston's time during normal office hours, the University considers that to be part of the duties of the Director of Research and Innovation Services. You will note that each of the bodies concerned has strong links with the University of Dundee.

Mr Houston also has permission to undertake other consultancy activity which does not utilise University time or facilities. Consequently, the University does not hold any information on the receipt of any payments to Mr Houston and you should treat this email as notice of that under S.17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

I understand that Mr Houston will remain a full-time employee of the University of Dundee until his retirement early next year. Mr Houston is leaving under the terms of the Voluntary Severance Scheme, available here http://www.dundee.ac.uk/hr/voluntaryseve....

Yours sincerely,
