Dear FOI,
Thank you for your response to my question.

I would like to know is any water from Scotland, being diverted, piped or channelled in any form of waterway above or below ground to supply English reservoirs/storage tanks. Weather it be
commercially, industrial, military or any other form of use.

However I find your response “I can confirm that there is currently no water supplies being diverted, piped or channelled to England from Scotland from Scottish Water” somewhat contrary to what the Scottish government stated in January 2017.

BBC News 25 January 2017
The Scottish government said the increase in exports to the rest of the UK was driven by utilities such as electricity - largely from renewables - as well as gas and water, with petroleum and chemical products contributing to the growth in EU exports.

Therefore I would like to know is Scottish Water in complete control of all of Scotland’s water and, who is supplying water to England if not Scottish water. As you stated?

Can I also point out that in 2012 there was talk of a £14+ billion pipeline from Scotland to England. And long before devolution where the West Minster government had total control over Scotland’s assets. I recall the leaked info about a pipeline seemingly being developed to take water from Scotland to England.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr Smith

Thank you for your request for information which we processed under the
Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRS) under the
exemption contained in section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002.

Your request for information was:

However I find your response “I can confirm that there is currently no
water supplies being diverted, piped or channelled to England from
Scotland from Scottish Water” somewhat contrary to what the Scottish
government stated in January 2017.

BBC News  25 January 2017

The Scottish government said the increase in exports to the rest of the UK
was driven by utilities such as electricity - largely from renewables - as
well as gas and water, with petroleum and chemical products contributing
to the growth in EU exports.

Therefore I would like to know is Scottish Water in complete control of
all of Scotland’s water and, who is supplying water to England if not
Scottish water. As you stated?

Can I also point out that in 2012 there was talk of a £14+ billion
pipeline from Scotland to England. And long before devolution where the
West Minster government had total control over Scotland’s assets. I recall
the leaked info about a pipeline seemingly being developed to take water
from Scotland to England.

Scottish Water do not provide public water supplies to anywhere in
England. We do not control all of the water in Scotland – only those
river, lochs and reservoirs that we hold authorisation from SEPA to allow
us to abstract for the purposes of public water supplies.

Scottish Water cannot confirm the sources of the news report from the BBC
or the context which was meant by the Scottish Government in the report.
As Scottish Water does not hold any of this information, the information
is exempt under s.10(4)(a) of EIR on the basis that the requested
information is not held by Scottish Water.

Scottish Water is involved in renewable energy generation such as wind and
solar and the context of this may have been misquoted in the press
release, furthermore there are several private organisation who supply
bottled water for profit which are not affiliated to Scottish Water. Sorry
I couldn’t be of more help but I can only assume that the government
statement was taken out of context.

You can seek a review of this response within forty working days and
thereafter appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner. Further
information on the appeals procedure can be obtained from the attached
document and the Commissioner's website at [1]www.itspublicknowledge.info.

Kind Regards
