Investment within the borough

The request was successful.

Dear Halton Borough Council,

Can the authority please specify the value of development investment made in Runcorn and Widnes since the authority acheived unitary status.

Specifically, the council has recently allocated £1.4m for the redevelopment and refurbishment of Widnes market, with no budget allocated to Runcorn.

I wish to know how much has been invested in each of the two towns of the borough since inception.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Price

Halton Borough Council

Dear Mr. Price I would like to respond to your request. However, I would
like to clarify what is meant by ‘development investment’? For example,
are you referring to a type of scheme or source of funding?

The caveat to your request is that our accounts system does not provide
specific information on projects going as far back as the date when Halton
BC obtained Unitary Authority Status.

Many thanks. Regards. Wesley

Dear Wesley Rourke,

Many thanks for your speedy response.

I did consider the length of time to be a bit of an issue, apologies for the vagueness, What I am trying to establish is how much money has been spent on projects, from council budgets in both Runcorn and Widnes, as separate towns. I would like this to go back as far as possible, to try and assess a true reflection of how the authority allocates it's and our funding.

For example, I am aware that two recent projects include the refurbishment of Widnes market and a development at the old Crosville bus depot in Runcorn, £1.4m and £2.2m respectively.

These projects are being funded directly from HBC funds, rather than central government, therefore projects such as the new Mersey crossing would not apply.

I hope this clarifies my request.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Price

Dear Wesley Rourke,

What I am trying to attain is how much of the councils funds been spent on providing development and refurbishment funds for the two towns. for example, many years ago, the authority provided financial assistance for the construction of what is now Widnes market, along with partners to construct morrisons etc. In Runcorn, the authority supported the construction of a new indoor market.

With the exception of the crossing, which is a many faceted venture, I am keen to know how mucgh has been invested in the towns seperately. The main investments are for constrcution and refurbishment of new and existing council assets in addition to new investment to encourage economic growth from external investment.

I hope this clarifies the question

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Price

Dear Mr. Price, my team are working on your request. Can I assume, therefore, that you are primarily interested in funding provided by Halton Borough Council for schemes in Runcorn and Widnes. You don't want information on other funding e.g. Lottery or the private sector that has been invested?
Thanks.
Regards. Wesley
