Information regarding your policy on someone renouncing their British Citizenship who lives in a country that has no British Embassy or British Consulate located there.

We're waiting for Christopher Taylor to read recent responses and update the status.

Christopher Taylor

Dear Home Office,

Last week i sent you the following Freedom Of Information Act which can be viewed on this link:

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/i...

My request to you was as follows below:

------------------------

Dear Home Office,

I would like to make a Freedom Of Information Act request. If a person who is a British citizen and is legally living in a country that has no British embassy or British consulate and wishes to renounce their British citizenship and meets all of the requirements and is eligible to renounce their citizenship than how exactly do they renounce it? What exactly would the procedure be to renounce it? Would it all be done over the phone or online for example? Can you please provide me with full details of your policy and rules for this? Many thanks and i look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Christopher Taylor

-------------------------

You then responded to me telling me that you would deal with it as an ordinary enquiry as below:

-------------------------

Dear Mr. Taylor,

Please be aware that we have decided to handle your correspondence of 30 May outside the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. This is because it does not meet the criteria for a Freedom of Information request, as it does not ask for recorded information.

Below is a link to the ICO guidance for the criteria for valid requests under the Act:

https://ico.org.uk/media/for-organisatio...

We will provide an answer to your query, but it will be answer outside of the provisions of the Act.  You should expect to receive a response in due course.

Thank you,

You clearly seem to think that i am making this request about myself. This is not the case. This is not about myself or about what i wish to do. I was requesting general recorded information on your policy.

I am not looking to renounce my citizenship myself. I am not asking for advice about renouncing my citizenship at all. I was asking for your policy in general. I wanted to know about your policy for people renouncing their citizenship who live in countries without a UK embassy or UK consulate there.

I believe that my request does in fact meet the criteria for making a Freedom Of Information request. I am asking you for recorded information about your policy on this subject. I am not asking for general advice. I am not asking for information about myself or what i wish to do.

Therefore i am asking you to deal with my request as a Freedom Of Information Act request under the Freedom Of Information Act law. I have looked in to this and i believe that my request does fall under the FOI Act and must therefore be dealt with under the FOI Act by your agency. I am requesting recorded information on this matter.

So i am once again making a Freedom Of Information Act to you again. This time please deal with it as a Freedom Of Information Act request. My request is as follows below:
