Information on student achieving exceeding and failing to achieve predicted grade based on ethnicity, race and gender.

We're waiting for Pran Patel to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service,

Please provide, broken down by year and by different listing below for the last 5 years,

a) A breakdown of total applicants to undergraduate degrees based on race, gender and ethnicity. Please do provide the intersectional categories between the above groups.

b) Then number/percentage of each group which achieved, exceeded and failed to achieve their predicted grade(s).

If any of these categories are currently held within a single larger category within internal coding by UCAS for data storage, I am happy for UCAS own data category to be returned so long as an explanation of which groups it covers is provided.

Yours faithfully,

Pran Patel

Dear Pran Patel

Re: FOI-2019-10-30-01

Further to your request UCAS publishes application and acceptance data on
the UCAS website in the in the End of Cycle data resources by Ethnicity
and gender. Potentially relevant established UCAS data:
The end of cycle resources will provide applications and acceptances by
ethnicity and sex can be found [1]here. The Microsoft Word document will
highlight all the reports containing ethnicity and sex.

A further breakdown by difference between achieved and predicted A-levels
can be purchased via our EXACT service. For example, we can further
breakdown the above information by more detailed ethnicity and by the
difference between achieved and predicted grades.

Disclosure controls are applied to the data to reduce the risk of
disclosing personal data about identifiable individuals. For counts, the
controls include reporting each cell count to the nearest five. In
particular cell counts of 1 and 2 are reported as 0. Rows that only report
0 are omitted from the output. These controls are applied to each cell
independently so this may result in instances where totals do not equal
the sum of the components. For derived statistics (e.g. means), to ensure
these disclosure controls are not undone, a minor adjustment is applied,
if necessary, such that the set of records contributing to each cell
matches the reported cell count (to the nearest five). This involves
either removing 1 or 2 records at random, or adding in 1 or 2 duplicates
at random. If the number of values contributing to a cell is 1, 2 or 0
then it is displayed as 'N'. Rows that only report 'N' are omitted from
the output.

EXACT is a charged service and is supplied with terms and conditions that
define the extent to which the results can be reproduced in publications.
Further details on the service can be found via:

In terms of the data available on the UCAS website and available upon the
payment  (through the EXACT service) as this information is accessible by
other means it is exempt from disclosure under Section 21 of the Freedom
of Information Act 2000.

If you are not satisfied with the way in which we have responded to your
request you may:

1)      Contact us requesting that this matter is reviewed internally by
UCAS.  Your request will then be subject to our internal review process.
2)      If you remain dissatisfied with the outcome of your internal
review, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office. The
Information Commissioner can be contacted at: The Information
Commissioner's Office,
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF, telephone 0303
