Imperial College London Physics UG exams results statistics

Matthew Enolla made this Freedom of Information request to Imperial College London Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was refused by Imperial College London.

Dear Imperial College London,

Could you please provide the distribution of overall marks obtained by the undergraduate students in the Physics Department, in the 5 academic years? Those are:
2021/2022,
2020/2021
2019/2020
2018/2019
2017/2018

If possible, the bin size of the histogram should be no greater than 5. The results should be separated for each cohort (i.e. year 1, year 2, year 3, and year 4). The overall marks should be the overall marks obtained in that academic year only, not accumulated marks over the years.

If you find yourself unable to complete the whole list you can exclude the 2018/2019 and
2017/2018 years

Yours faithfully,

Matthew Enolla

IMPFOI, Imperial College London

Dear Matthew Enolla,

The Freedom of Information Act created a right to access information to enable scrutiny of public authorities in the public interest. Section 14(1) of the Act aims to protect public authorities by allowing them to refuse any requests which have the potential to cause a disproportionate or unjustified level of disruption and are therefore deemed vexatious. While we appreciate that your request was made in good faith and was not intended to cause disruption, we are entitled to consider whether a request has a value or serious purpose in terms of the objective public interest in the information sought and to weigh that against the burden that would be placed on the organisation by having to produce that information. The public interest being the public good, not what is of interest to groups of or individual members of the public. The College's view is that there is no public interest value in the information you have requested that would justify the College devoting resources to producing the information and placing it into the public domain. We are therefore refusing this request in reliance on Section 14 of the Freedom of Information Act.

Yours,

Freedom of Information Team
Imperial College London

Please note that if you are unhappy with the way that we have handled your request, you can ask us to conduct a review.
