David Eason made this Rhyddid Gwybodaeth request to West Midlands Fire Service

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear West Midlands Fire Service,

How many WMFS employees have been retired early to pension due to ill health?

How many of these have had their pension entitlement reassessed.

How many of these have had their pension reassessed twice?

How many have had their pension reassessed more than twice?

How much does it cost for an ill health reassessment from the brigade medical advisor? If there is not one fixed price, then what is the average cost per case?

How much does it cost for an IQMP to reassess each individual? If there is not one fixed price, then what is the average cost per case?

What budget does the BMA / IQMP costs come from?

How many retirees does WMFS currently have a recommendation to reassess from a medical professional.

I look forward to your response,

Yours faithfully,

David Eason

Dear Mr Eason

RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST

I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now
completed its search for the information you requested on 5th June 2019.

Please find below a summary of our findings.

Request

How many West Midlands Fire Service employees have been retired early to
pension due to ill health?

Reply

The number of West Midlands Fire Service uniformed employees currently in
receipt of Ill Health Pensions is 738.

Since 2013 the number of support staff who have retired on ill health
grounds is 5. We do not hold information before prior to 2013

Request

How many of these have had their pension entitlement reassessed.

Reply

The process for reassessing pension entitlement for uniformed employees
was introduced in 2015 and was not to be applied retrospectively. Reviews
are carried out after 3 years of ill health retirement being granted.

Since 2018 we have had one ill-health retirement which has been reviewed.

Reply

The costs of an ill health medical appointment by the brigade physician
obviously varies from case to case, how complex the issues are and how
many times they are seen in OH.

As a guide the initial appointment of approximately one hour at a cost of
£216.00, the reports from GP and Consultants will have their own
individual costs of anything from £50.00 upwards.

IQMP costs are on an individual basis dependant on the work required, the
current IQMP is £150.00 per hour.

Request

What budget does the BMA / IQMP costs come from?

Reply

Medical Budget D389, this budget is used for a variety of medical related
expenses
