How much you receive from Light dues per year, outgoing costs and if you are in surplus?
Dear The Corporation of Trinity House of Deptford Strond,
Could you please advise what your annual light dues income is and whether the Department of Transport supplies the funds to you in full or do they take a percentage?
Could you also advise your annual outgoings and whether your accounts are in surplus or in debt.
Yours faithfully,
Lucy Wood
Dear Madam
Thank you for your email dated 24 April 2019 regarding a request for
information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) regarding Light
Dues income.
In the first instance we would advise that Trinity House is not designated
as a "public authority" under the FOIA. However, we are content to make
certain information available where appropriate and possible to do so. We
would advise that the questions you raise can probably be most
appropriately addressed with reference to the General Lighthouse Fund
Report and Accounts for the year ended 31 March 2018 (copy attached).
Please see link below. This document is produced by the UK Department for
Transport.

However, you may wish to further note that Trinity House, along with the
other General Lighthouse Authorities for the United Kingdom and Ireland,
are funded primarily through contributions made by ship owners (light
dues) into a fund called the General Lighthouse Fund (“GLF”). What may be
paid into and out of the GLF is prescribed by section 211 of MSA 1995. The
GLF is under the stewardship of the Department for Transport which takes
on day to day management of the GLF. The GLF is subject to audit by the
Comptroller and Auditor General.
Light dues are charged on ships calling at UK and Irish ports based on
their tonnage. In the UK, the Secretary of State sets the rate of light
dues
annually by Regulations made under section 205(5) of MSA 1995 so as to
meet the approved and contingency funding requirement of the GLAs. Thus
light dues are a direct charge for the provision of AtoN paid for by the
user.
We trust that the above answers your question appropriately.
Kind Regards
Russell
