Dear Mr Williams
Freedom of Information Regulations request: FOI 22478
Thank you for your request dated 7th December 2018 in which you ask:
Please can you tell me how many social rented accommodation for severely disabled people in wheelchairs with dogs do you have available in the borough?
Our response is as follows:
The Council do not collect the information that would enable us to provide an answer to your question. However, we are able to advise you that there are approximately 155 new build rented wheelchair units, suitable for people with disabilities, which have been developed over the past 5 years. This includes both Council properties and properties owned by Registered Providers (also known as Housing Associations), although there are also properties that would be considered adaptable should it become necessary.
Council tenants must ask permission if they wish to keep a dog, (with the exception of assistance dogs) and Registered Providers will also have their own policies regarding the circumstances where tenants may keep pets.
In addition, there are also a number of existing properties which have been adapted and customised to suit individual tenants’ needs, but we do not collect information regarding how many of these properties may be suitable to keep dogs.
If you have any queries about this correspondence, please contact me, quoting the reference number above.
If you are not satisfied with our response to your request, you can ask for an Internal Review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your original request. If you wish to do this, please contact us, setting out why you are dissatisfied.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the Internal Review, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the Internal Review procedure provided by the Council. You can contact the ICO by emailing [email address], or by post at Customer Contact, Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, SK9 5AF.
Yours sincerely,
