How many loan applicants turned down in their final year of study

Mae'r cais hwn wedi cael ei dynnu'n ôl gan y sawl a'i wnaeth. Efallai y bydd esboniad yn yr ohebiaeth isod.

Dear Student Loans Company Limited,

I'd like to find out how many students who are entitled to funding have been declined finance in their final year of study where they have been successful in applying for finance for previous years of their course?

I'd also like to find what is deemed as "evidence" of entitlement for maintenance loans if the higher rate maintenance loan has been applied for on the basis of living away from the parental home and on a low income?

Yours faithfully,

Andrew

FOI Requests, Y Cwmni Benthyciadau i Fyfyrwyr

Dear Mr Hill

Further to your email dated 30th October 2019, we are emailing to seek
clarification of both questions:

Question 1 - We would be grateful if you could clarify this question.
This question could include those student made ineligible in their final
year for several reasons, such as unfit, new evidence comes to light re
eligibility, SLC error, however they would not be entitled to funding.
The students may just also be awarded £0 core funding as they are only
entitled to Grants for Dependants or Disabled Students' Allowance which
they may not claim.

Also, there is no timeframe advised in this question, so would cover all
and any academic years, as well as students funded by all funding
authorities (Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, Student
Finance Northern Ireland and Student Awards Agency of Scotland).

Question 2 - This question is considered too vague to consider further at
this time without further clarification/explanation.  There has to be an
assessment of household income to determine what maintenance funding can
be awarded - this may be achieved through checking with HMRC and in some
cases we may ask for income evidence where this doesn't match with HMRC
records. If you mean those students who wish to apply for a loan rate for
living elsewhere/own home (away from parents) we generally don't ask for
evidence up front but we may through sample checking. This is because when
students apply they may not have confirmed arrangements in place as to
where they may live once on their course.  In that case we may ask for
evidence of tenancy or mortgage agreements for where they live whilst in
study and also that they are making payments for that accommodation such
as bank statements.

We would be grateful if you could provide clarification/further detail as
to your specific requirements.

As clarification of your request has been considered necessary, the
timescales for responding have stopped, and will recommence on receipt of
your clarification.

Yours sincerely
