How many DNR requests are rejected

The request was refused by Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

Dear Bolton NHS Foundation Trust,

I would like to find out the following:

How many DNR orders were overturned between the years 2007-2012 that led to the attempted resuscitation of a patient (whether that was successful or not)?

How many DNR orders were overturned between the years 2012-2017 that led to the attempted resuscitation of a patient (whether that was successful or not)?

How does your Trust receive DNR Orders from patients?

Many thanks for your help.

Yours faithfully,

Dan Hillstead

Dear Mr Hillstead,

I am one of the Senior Resuscitation Officers for Bolton NHS Foundation
Trust.    I would be delighted to help with your FOI enquiry, however in
order for me to proceed it would be most helpful if you could provide some
clarification with regards to some of the points you raised in your recent
FOI request.

1 How many DNR orders were overturned between the years 2012-2017 that led
to the attempted resuscitation of a patient (whether that was successful
or not)?

Could you please clarify or define your understanding of  DNR orders?  And
in the context of the question;  who you actually define as the issuer of
the DNR order and your definition of overturned?

2 How does your Trust receive DNR Orders from patients?

Could you please clarify this question.

Once I am in receipt of your clarifications I will endeavour to  help with
your FOI enquiry.

Yours sincerely

Mike Gallagher

Dear Gallagher Mike,

For Question 1 - I want to know how many Do Not Resuscitate orders that are already in place (ie a patient has made their wishes known) that are overturned by a clinician in an attempt to save the person.

Question 2 - How do the hospitals receive DNR orders from patients, is it from a GP or is a copy bought in by patients

Yours sincerely,

Dan Hillstead
