Housing waiting times

The request was partially successful.

Dear Lewisham Borough Council,

I am writing to obtain information relating to the longest and average wait time for a council home in the borough.

Please can you inform me, every year for the last three years:

1) What the average wait time has been for a property on the councils housing list.

Please detail this for 1/2/3/4 bed properties.

2) What is the longest period somebody has been on the waiting list each year for the last three years

3) How many people currently on the waiting list have been on the list for longer than a) 3 years b) 5 years c) 10 years (Aggregated number and percentage)

4) What is the overall length of time for a person/family/household to remain on the Housing Waiting List before being housed in suitable social housing?

Yours faithfully,

Grainne Cuffe

Dear Grainne,

Re: Freedom of Information Act 2000

Environmental Information Regulations 2004

Reference No: 4993085

Thank you for your request for information held by London Borough of
Lewisham. I have included below a copy of your request, followed by the
Council’s response.

1) What the average wait time has been for a property on the councils
housing list.

Please detail this for 1/2/3/4 bed properties.

We apply Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, ‘Information
reasonably accessible to the applicant by other means’, to your request.

These can be found as ‘published’ Mayor & Cabinet decisions using the
following link:

·
[1]http://councilmeetings.lewisham.gov.uk/m...

2) What is the longest period somebody has been on the waiting list each
year for the last three years

·         2017/18: 34 minus 2 = 32

·         2018/19: 34 minus 1 =33

·         2019/20: 34 years approx.

3) How many people currently on the waiting list have been on the list for
longer than a) 3 years b) 5 years c) 10 years (Aggregated number and
percentage)

·         Greater or equal 3 years= 6136 (6136/9383) = 65%

·         Greater or equal 5 years=4458 = 47.5%

·         Greater or equal 10 years=2179=23.3%

·         Total records = 9383

4) What is the overall length of time for a person/family/household to
remain on the Housing Waiting List before being housed in suitable social
housing?

·         Information  not Held. We cannot provide a set length of time as
each applicants wait time depends on their banding, bed size need, any
assessed restrictions to their bidding such as medical requirements and
their subsequent bidding choices as per our Choice Based Lettings Service.
