Please find set out below the information in response to the above
request:
Apologies for the delay and any inconvenience caused.
1. How many vacant/empty Homes in Brighton and Hove are exempt from or
have a reduction in the Council Tax charged? Council Tax is currently
charged at full rate for an empty property - increasing to 150% if the
property remains empty for two years. Exemptions from paying Council Tax
are limited and are circumstance related i.e. properties in probate or
people absent as they are receiving care away from their home. Details of
exemptions can be found on the council’s website [1]Council Tax -
discounts and exemptions Properties can also be removed from the rating
system completely through the Valuation Office (VO). This has to be taken
forward by the owner of the property.
The number of properties coded in these ways will change every day. A
snapshot of the figure as at the 31^st March of each tax year is:
2014-15 1631
2015-16 800
2016-17 781
2. How many properties that are long-term empty (more than two years) had

Years 2014, 2015 and 2016?
There have been zero EDMOs but empty properties are returned to use
through a system of identify, encourage, enforce:

the years 2014, 2015 and 2016? We are not aware of anything called an
Empty Property Order - but please see numbers of empty properties returned
to use as above.
5. How many Compulsory Purchase Orders (C.P.O.'s) were made against the
owners of long-term empty buildings or land in the years 2014, 2015 and

part of the Empty Property Strategy Enforcement options - but please see
numbers of empty properties returned to use as above.
