Housing

The request was successful.

Dear Milton Keynes Council,

Can you please give me the current figures of houses you own in the borough and what sizes these are, ie 10x1 bedroom 22x2 bedroom 14x3 bedroom 2x4 bedrooms 5x5 bedroom and so on.

Can you please tell me how many of these are empty, what size they are as of today’s date and what areas they are in. Ie 1x1 bedroom, 2x3 bedroom 3x2 bedroom 4x4 bedroom and so on.

Can you tell me what voids these properties have? If they have any at all, Ie broken boiler, in need of new kitchens, bathrooms etc. And what size the properties are with there current voids. Ie 1x1 bed has a broken boiler, 1x1 bed has broken windows. 1x3 bed has holes in the walls, 1x4 bed has a leaking roof and so on.

Can you tell me who from Milton Keynes council over looks the works and signs the properties off once builders have completed the works?

How long do people spend in temporary accommodation before being housed in Milton Keynes?

Does Milton Keynes council have a waiting list for people to go on that are overcrowded?

Does Milton Keynes council check properties to make sure people are in the correct size houses for there needs ie people don’t have a 3 bed when they should only be in a 1 bed?

How does Milton Keynes council know who to charge for bedroom tax?

How many people are paying bedroom tax currently this tax year?

Yours faithfully,

Louise

Dear Louise

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST

Your request for information has now been considered and the information
requested is as follows:

Can you please give me the current figures of houses you own in the
borough and what sizes these are, i.e. 10x1 bedroom 22x2 bedroom 14x3
bedroom 2x4 bedrooms 5x5 bedroom and so on - Number of council properties
(excluding leasehold & shared ownership) = 11,126.  0 bed = 277, 1 bed =
3470, 2 bed = 2739, 3 bed = 4186, 4 bed = 421, 5 bed = 31, 6 bed = 0, 7
bed = 1, 8 bed = 1 (former sheltered scheme)

Can you please tell me how many of these are empty, what size they are as
of today’s date and what areas they are in. I.e. 1x1 bedroom, 2x3 bedroom
3x2 bedroom 4x4 bedroom and so on - 98 properties are empty - 0 bed = 3, 1
bed = 61, 2 bed = 18, 3 bed = 13, 4 bed = 0, 5 bed = 2, 6 bed = 0, 7 bed =
0, 8 bed = 1.

The areas the empty properties are in are:- Netherfield, New Bradwell,
Beanhill, Bletchley, Conniburrow, Fullers Slade, Fishermead, Stony
Stratford, Springfield, Oldbrook, Bradwell Common, Tinkers Bridge,
Heelands, Loughton, Pennyland, Woburn Sands, Bradville, Stacey Bushes,
CMK, Coffee Hall, Olney, Emerson Valley, Newport Pagnall, Two Mile Ash,
Fenny Stratford, Bolbeck Park.

Can you tell me what voids these properties have? If they have any at all,
I.e. broken boiler, in need of new kitchens, bathrooms etc. And what size
the properties are with their current voids. I.e. 1x1 bed has a broken
boiler, 1x1 bed has broken windows. 1x3 bed has holes in the walls, 1x4
bed has a leaking roof and so on - Of the empty properties, 45 are in
Major Works/Insurance for various things including structural damage, fire
damage, and decommissioned properties.

Can you tell me who from Milton Keynes council overlooks the works and
signs the properties off once builders have completed the works? - Mears
look over the properties and sign of any works carried out.

How long do people spend in temporary accommodation before being housed in
Milton Keynes?  - The average stay in TA is 219 days.

Does Milton Keynes council have a waiting list for people to go on that
are overcrowded? - There is not a separate list for overcrowding
specifically; applications are assessed in date order, which is also how
they are allocated.

Does Milton Keynes council check properties to make sure people are in the
correct size houses for their needs i.e. people don’t have a 3 bed when
they should only be in a 1 bed? - We carry out checks as part of the
application process as to the size of the accommodation needed. We take
applications from people wishing to downsize, or needing larger
accommodation due to a change of circumstances.

How does Milton Keynes council know who to charge for bedroom tax? -
Milton Keynes Council doesn’t charge a bedroom tax.  It is the maximum
housing benefit that is reduced which means there is then rent to pay.
Please see this web page for more information.

[1]https://www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/benefit...

How many people are paying bedroom tax currently this tax year?  - In
July, the number of people having their housing benefit reduced because of
the social sector size criteria rules was 954.  This is for all social
sector tenants including housing associations. The number that is in
council tenancies is 542.  However, we are not able to advise how many
people have a restriction for the Social Sector Size Criteria in their
Housing Costs element of Universal Credit because this is administered by
the Department for Work and Pensions, not the Council.
