Dear Lothian & Borders Fire Brigade,

(2) From January 2010 (inclusive) – March 2010(inclusive) how
many hoax* calls did the Fire & Rescue Service Receive?

Yours faithfully,

James Napier, Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade

Dear Sir

With reference to your request for information concerning hoax calls and
in particular,

(1) From January 2009 (inclusive) - December 2009 (inclusive) how many
hoax* calls did the Fire & Rescue Service received?

(2) From January 2010 (inclusive) - March 2010 (inclusive) how many hoax*
calls did the Fire & Rescue Service Receive?

* By hoax you meant calls where there has been a malicious element,
i.e. the call was not made in belief there actually was a fire.

The information you request is as follows

01/01/2009 to 31/03/2009 243 (Terian)
01/04/2009 to 31/12/2009 396
01/01/2010 to 31/03/2010 105

The definition of a False Alarm Malicious changed when we moved onto the
Incident Recording System on 01/04/2009 and now reads:

Are calls made with the intention of getting the FRS to attend a
non-existent incident, including deliberate and suspected malicious
intentions.

Where the FRS attends a location believing there to be a fire incident,
but on arrival discovers that no such incident exists, or existed.

If the appliances are `Turned around' by Command & Control before arriving
at the incident - then the incident is not classed as having been attended
and does not need to be reported.

Trusting this is the information you are seeking, if I can be of further
assistance with regard to this request please contact me.
