HMP Isle of Wight - Electoral Denial

The request was successful.

Dear Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons,

I understand that it is a criminal offence under the Representation of the People Act 1983 for any person to prevent an otherwise eligible person from voting in an Election.

Further it is a matter that must be reported to the Electoral Commission for their investigation.

Following your finding in the Independent Review of Progress Report on HMP Isle of Wight published in February 2020, that the remand population at the prison were denied their right to take part in the General Election of 2019 can you please let have copies of:

a) Your report to the Electoral Commission notifying them of your findings that the remand population at HMP Isle of Wight were denied their right to vote; and

b) Your report to the police notifying them of your findings as in a) above.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Leech FRSA
