Dear [Name Removed],

Thank you for your enquiry received by Keble College on 10 March 2022 and
made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

Your request is slightly ambiguous. Please would you clarify what you mean
by ‘How much does High Table cost?’.

Does your question refer to the amount charged to individuals for eating
at High Table, or the total costs incurred by the College?

Does your reference to ‘High Table’ relate to meals served to members of
the Senior Common Room only on special occasions or every meal provided to
those with Senior Common Room dining rights (including Fellows, other
academics associated with the College and some non-academic staff, often
as part of their remuneration)?

I look forward to your clarification, as it will enable us to proceed with
your request.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Monteith

Dear [Name Removed],

This is in reply to your enquiry received by the College on 10 March 2022
and made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), as well as the
clarification provided on 30 March 2022. I can confirm that the College
does hold some information related to your request but it should be seen
in the context of the explanation provided below, not least because of the
difficulty in defining the term ‘High Table’.

The College utilises the term ‘High Table’ to refer to evening meals of
the Senior Common Room. The College, however does not track these amounts
separately from the other costs relating to the Senior Common room, such
as lunches. The figures below are therefore inclusive of both lunch and
dinners for members of the Senior Common Room. This includes Fellows as
well as lecturers and staff with a right to dine in the Senior Common
Room. Food costs are not directly separable from the total food costs,
including student and staff meals. The figures above are therefore based
on a notional cost which takes into account the budgeted food cost and a
portion of the staff costs to supply these meals.

Academic Year and Estimated High Table/SCR costs

2009-10: £62,679

2010-11: £62,766

2011-12: £74,591

2012-13: £73,993

2013-14: £78,022

2014-15: £91,744

2015-16: £87,115

2016-17: £85,470

2017-18: £91,732

2018-19: £104,229

2019-20: £80,926

2020-21: £32,687

21-Jan 22 (6 months) : £33,374

It is also worth noting that Keble College is a large college and has a
relatively high number of people with SCR dining rights. There is also
significant variation in terms or what those rights are. The SCR list for
2021-2022 lists 51 Fellows, 49 Honorary Fellows, 18 Emeritus Fellows, 45
Lecturers, 6 College Officers and at least 9 members of non-academic
staff, among others. Some of these have full dining rights free of charge,
whereas others will have limited rights and/or have to pay for their
meals. Anybody consuming alcohol is charged for it. Some may be allowed
guests (free of charge or at own expense). In the case of current academic
and non-academic staff, any meals they are eligible to have free of charge
are considered part of their remuneration.

If you have further questions please ask me in the first instance. Details
about the College’s approach to Freedom of Information, including who to
ask for a review, can be found at
[1]https://www.keble.ox.ac.uk/freedom-of-in.... If, after following
those procedures you are still not satisfied with the way in which your
request has been dealt with you may apply directly to the Information
Commissioner for a decision.

Yours sincerely,
