Dear Lyn Rees-Williams
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST
Thank you for your request for information received on 25^th February
2022. We have considered your request and enclose the following
(1) Prior to the Chartist Bridge opening in 2005 please provide the Health
and Safety / Risk assessment information pertaining to pedestrians and
cyclists using the bridge. [Date up to Dec 2005]
There are no identified Risk Assessments pertinent to pedestrians and
cyclists. However, the bridge was constructed to Highway Standards and
was also subject to safety audits during design and construction. The
safety audits found no issues with the design of the bridge.
(2) Since opening the bridge to pedestrians and cyclists from Dec 2005
please provide any Health & Safety / Risk Assessments that have been
carried out or reviewed. [Jan 2006 ~ Feb 2022]
Although there has been no change of law to determine any such need for
retrospective review, a risk assessment of the bridge dated May 2017 (as
attached) was performed by Highway Health and Safety Officers. This did
not record any appropriate issues regarding the safe use of the bridge by
pedestrians or cyclists, again noting there has been no change to
considered design standards.
(3) How many Health and Safety / Risk assessment have been carried out
2005 ~2022 in a figure.
There has been only 1 recorded risk assessment during the above timeframe
that can be determined, as identified in point 2.
