Grit bin
Dear Bradford City Council,
Please can you provide a grit bin as we live in a cul-de-sac which is never gritted which causess major issues in icy conditions. We had a 'near miss' at just after midnight on New Years Eve after skidding in the car on our estate then getting stuck on the black ice for over an hour before someone could help us to get back home as we couldn't leave the vehicle due to the extreme black ice on the road and pavements. I was returing from the hospital with my daughter who is 35 weeks pregnant. This caused unnecessary stress and worry for our safety as we were stranded in our car blocking the road. The RAC couldn't attend until 3am in the morning and their advice was to call the emergency services luckily a family member managed to reach us and with a bag of rock salt gritted the road as we drove the car home. If the road had been gritted in the first place this awful situation wouldn't have occurred.
Please can you help with providing a grit bin so the residents on this estate have the ability to make the road as safe as possible in these circumstances.
Yours faithfully,
Alison Thresh

Good afternoon Alison
Firstly can I apologise for the time taken to respond.
I have seen a request for a grit bin but unfortunately I have not been
able to find the address in question?
Would you be able to give me a location please?
We have a grit bin assessment form (attached) and we are currently dealing
with a high number of applications. Those applications which meet our
assessment criteria will be filed and should we have chance to install new
grit bins across the network we will choose from the successful
applications. Those which are not successful will be stored on file and
one day we may have chance to lower our criteria?
We currently have 554 grit bins across the district and filling them all
is labour intensive and time consuming.
Have you seen our Snow Warden scheme? I only took over my position on 11
January 2021 so although I’m not fully up and running with this scheme
myself it might suit you or a neighbour?
I look forward to hearing from you so we can work together and hopefully
solve the issues around adverse weather conditions.
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact
me or you may find our website useful:
