Dear Local Government Ombudsmen

I would like a list of all gifts purchased at taxpayers expense by Mr Redmond during his Australian Study tour. I would also like the name of the person/office given the gift and the reason and the value.

I refer to Mr Karney's proposal for Mr Redmond's Study Tour

'When hospitality during such stays is received, there is an entitlement to exercise discretion over the use of the £25 per stay hospitality, where a saving had arisen and in substitution a gift may be purchased for the host.'

Yours faithfully,

Trevor R Nunn

Foi Officer, The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman

Do I understand this policy correctly?

It allowed Mr Redmond to receive hospitality from Australian Ombudsmen (at Australian taxpayers expense) and then use British taxpayer's money to buy them a gift (up to the value of £25) to thank them for spending Australian taxpayer's money on him?

Mr Redmond did include one gift (value: £25) for a host in his reimbursement claim for his study tour of Australia, but we hold no record of what this gift was or to whom it was given. The information requested is not held.
