Dear Mr Traill

Freedom of Information request re gifts and hospitality

I refer to your e-mail of 14 July 2011 requesting information about gifts and hospitality offered for the period 1 January 2011 to the present and now give you the following information:

As an introduction, I attach a copy of the College's Gifts and Hospitality Policy gives details of the circumstances in which gifts or hospitality should not be accepted by staff, can be accepted and need to be recorded, and can be accepted and do not need to be recorded.

The only substantive gift/hospitality recorded during the period 1 January 2011 to the present date was one, as follows:

Gift - theatre tickets
Offered to - lecturer
When - May 2011, after end of course
Whether accepted - yes, as course had been completed and there was no issue of possible influencing of the lecturer concerned
Value - unknown - information not held
Made by - student, in appreciation of support given by lecturer during the course

The College does not hold any information about modest gifts/hospitality received which do not require to be recorded, such as individual bottles of wine or Marks and Spencer vouchers of insignificant value. These kinds of gifts are donated to a raffle held at the end of term for the staff. Persons winning an item are permitted to take that item home.

I trust that this is helpful. The College is subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. If you are not satisfied with the response you have received to your request for information, you have the right to request a review and to appeal subsequently to the Scottish Information Commissioner. Any request for a review should be made in writing, either by e-mail or by letter, to the College Secretary at the address below.
