Full details of our Unfair Practice Procedures are available on our
[1]website but the total figure is a combination of those students who
have accepted a fixed penalty and those that have been through a Committee
of Enquiry.

1c) Itemised Instances of Academic Misconduct

Plagiarism Collusion Unauthorised Communication Fabrication
materials in exam in the exam of Data
room room
2012/13 146 47 21 2 1
2013/14 139 18 4 0 0
2014/15 133 39 16 0 1
2015/16 166 34 22 15 1
2016/17 144 17 19 0 0

You will notice that the figures above do not tally with the total figures
provided in Q1. This is because some students have been found to have
committed academic misconduct of multiple types (e.g. Plagiarism and
Collusion) but also the figures above do not include those that were
ultimately found to be unsubstantiated whereas Q1 does.

In terms of disciplinary outcomes, unless they are disqualified, all
students found guilty will receive formal reprimands and will either
accept a fixed penalty or go through a Committee of Enquiry which will in
some cases, result in partial/full cancellation of marks. The severity of
this depends on each case.

2. In those academic years (2013 to 2017), How many of those are the case
where a ghostwriter involve? (for ex: assignment or dissertation were
written by somebody else)

See above.

3. How to find out that ghostwriter involvement since many ghostwriter
organisations offer the plagiarism checking?

N/a.

4. Is there any case where your staff involved in that unfair practice,
being a ghostwriter for the student?

None.

If you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been dealt with
or with the outcome of the consideration given to your request, you may
ask for an Internal Review. If you are not content with the outcome of the
Internal Review you have the right to apply directly to the Information
Commissioner for a decision. Our procedure for carrying out Internal
Reviews can be found under the ‘Complaint’ section of [2]this document.

If you have any queries about this response or would like any further
information about your request, or the Freedom of Information Act in
general, please do not hesitate to contact us again by e-mail
([3][email address]), letter (Cardiff Metropolitan
University, Llandaff Campus, Western Avenue, Cardiff, CF5 2YB) or
telephone (02920 20 5635).

Thank you very much.
