FOIA, Judicial Appointments Commission

Dear Mr Steel,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding Gender Equality Statistics in the Judiciary.

The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) is not responsible for the appointment of Magistrates and therefore does not hold information regarding such appointments.

For appointments the JAC are responsible for we publish statistics providing information on the number of applications, shortlisting and recommendation for the appointment of Judges, both in Courts and Tribunals, and this information can be found on our website using the following link : -

https://www.judicialappointments.gov.uk/...

Please note statistical information on selection exercises completed prior to April 2009 can be found here:-

https://www.judicialappointments.gov.uk/...

These statistics provides you with the information I consider you are looking for.

Finally, in reference to your third question, regarding up to date statistics on gender equally within all tiers of the judiciary. Again, the JAC is not responsible for keeping these records, so therefore does not hold this information. Can I suggest that you contact Judicial Office on this point using the following link

https://www.judiciary.uk/foi/

I trust this is useful.

Dear FOIA,

Thank you for the information you provided.

However, the link for the pre2009 states does not work - it tells me "page does not exist"

Can you please provide assistance.

Yours sincerely,
