GEM A101 Admissions statistics

We're waiting for Zahra Aqleem to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Cardiff University,

I would be most grateful if you could provide the following statistics for the last 3 A101 Entry Cycles (2019 entry, 2018 entry, 2017 entry).
- Number of places available
- Number of applicants
- Number of interview invites
- Number of offers given
- Number of offers accepted
- Number of places in the waiting list and how many from the waiting list were given offers
- How GAMSAT score is used in the admissions process and the cut off / average scores used

Whilst I realize it is not mandatory of the FoI request to give the following information, I would thoroughly appreciate it if you could shed some light on the following;
- How are students selected for the interview
- How are interview scores calculated
- Whether there is an interview cut off score to receive an offer
- Are there extra places for 2020 entry due to the government initiative to create more medicine places?

Yours faithfully,
Zahra Rizvi

Dear Zahra

I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information request dated 11
September 2020.

For ease of reference, I have reproduced your questions below and set out
our corresponding responses.

I would be most grateful if you could provide the following statistics for
the last 3 A101 Entry Cycles (2019 entry, 2018 entry, 2017 entry).

- Number of places available

For each of the years in question there are places for up to ten students
from each Feeder Stream programme to enter the second year of the
five-year A100 Medical programme.

- Number of places in the waiting list and how many from the waiting list
were given offers

We do not have a waiting list for the A101.

- How GAMSAT score is used in the admissions process and the cut off /
average scores used

We do not have a minimum GAMSAT threshold score, however it may be used as
part of our selection process.

Whilst I realize it is not mandatory of the FoI request to give the
following information, I would thoroughly appreciate it if you could shed
some light on the following;

- How are students selected for the interview

Details of the entry requirements, interview and selection process for our
Medicine (MBBCh) programme, including GCSE academic requirements, can be
found on the University’s website here:
[1]https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/study/undergra...

- How are interview scores calculated

The interview is in the form of multiple mini interviews. (MMIs). There
will usually be nine stations, exploring personal qualities and attributes
important to developing a good doctor. Each station is scored by a trained
interviewer.

- Whether there is an interview cut off score to receive an offer

On completion of all the interviews we will rank these scores and will
make offers to the highest ranked applicants.

- Are there extra places for 2020 entry due to the government initiative
to create more medicine places?

                Not for the A101.
