Funding for KCH Clinical Trials

The request was successful.

Dear King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust,

Thank you so much for working on keeping clinical trial results onto EudraCT, especially for doing a better job than other institutions.

However, I am concerned with how difficult it is to find how much funding has gone to each individual clinical trial. Whereas it is often stated who the funder of a trial is, the amount of money received for each study is not. For example, on EU Trials Tracker and on the registry it is sometimes stated that the funder is the National Institute for Health Research, but not how much money they contributed. Additionally, other studies do not list a funder at all. For example, on the clinical trials registry, there is sometimes a blank space next to the monetary sponsor, such as with trial 2006-006617-32. In addition, more broadly, data on the Trust’s trials on the registry is often incomplete and inaccurate.

The following FOI request covers all clinical trials sponsored by King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust that are listed on the EU trial registry, as listed in the Excel linked below.

1. Please state who the funder is for those trials whose funder information is missing from the clinical trials registry. These trials have an empty cell on the Excel sheet linked below.

2. With reference to the data already contained in the Excel sheet linked below, which was extracted from the registry, please confirm that existing data on funders’ identities provided in the registry are correct and complete, and if not, provide complete and accurate information for the relevant trials.

3. For each trial, individually, please state the funding amount received for the trial, in British Pounds (GBP). If a trial was conducted as part of a larger research effort, please make a note of this in the Excel, and provide the funding amount (in GBP) received for the larger research effort.

Please respond to this FOI request by completing the Excel document linked here:

provide us with a copy of the excel document for us to complete by
replying to this email.

In accordance with the Act, we aim to respond to your request within
twenty working days of receipt.  If it becomes clear that provision of the

working days, I will let you know and give you an expected timescale.
However, please be aware that requests submitted now are likely to be
delayed over the Christmas and New Year period.

Certain categories of information are exempt from the general right of
access provided by the Act.  Should your request be deemed to relate to
any exempt information, I will advise you accordingly.

As a public authority, the Trust may charge a fee for the information
requested. Any fees are calculated in accordance with the regulations
issued under the Act. If your request generates a fee payment, I will
inform you at the earliest opportunity and provide an estimation of costs.

Please let me know if you require more details or further clarification.

Dear FOI (King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust),

I still need the information, however I cannot see the email address you included in your last email, I can only see [email address] without an actual place to send it. Is there a way I can see this address?

Yours sincerely,

Debra Winberg

Dear Ms Winberg,

Thank you for your email.

I think the issue is that the email links are being removed by the
security software when the emails are going via the What Do They Know
website. The website states “To protect their owners from spam, we
automatically remove most emails and some mobile numbers from responses to
requests. “

I would suggest either submitting your request directly to the Trust, via
the King’s College Hospital website or copy and pasting the text of the
attachment into an email.
