Thank you for your request. The majority of supply companies are allowed to operate aywhere within England, Scotland and Wales. However the distribution companies have set areas, which were created in the late 1940s and have been carried forward since. There would be the basis of the software used by the different price comparison sites linking postcode to a particular area which isn't something that Ofgem has had any involvement in. The most accessible one of these has the first portion of the postcode, please find the link below

Hope this helps.

Dear Office of Gas and Electricity Markets,

RE: Full list of postcodes and their electricity supply regions

The energylinx website does not cover all postcodes, and map them to an energy supply region. As an example, E20 is missing, but is a legitimate Stratford, London post code.

Please can you send me a full list of postcodes and their associated PES region.

Yours faithfully,

Alex Smith

Thanks for this. Ofgem doesn't hold the postcode data you are after.

However in the past we have been advised that there is a database that theoretically links postcodes to electricity DNO areas. I am not sure of the specifics but it was something that the electricity companies were working on that would have allowed members of the public to call a freephone number in the event of planned electricity cuts. Ofgem didn't request a copy but I believe that all supplier call centres were provided with a database on a CD.

The CD was produced by the ENA, you could try contacting them to see whether the information is generally available.

With regards to the specific E20 postcode on the Energylinx site, it would best contacting Energylinx directly, there may be a problem with their site that they are not aware of.
