Response
The costs of cleansing sex related waste in Holbeck are detailed below.
These amounts include costs for the cleansing of both residential and
the light industrial areas and also includes work such as shrubbery
removal.
Investment in cleansing in the areas has increased since 2014 as part of
the work to better manage the impact of street based sex working . Prior
to 18/19 the amounts also included some costs that were unrelated to
street based sex working such as the removal of drug related litter. At
the time these costs were not able to be separated out.
In 2018/19 a dedicated team has been established including the use of a
sweeper vehicle. These new arrangements, supported by intelligence and
information supplied by the community of Holbeck, have resulted in a more
efficient and targeted service leading to a marked improvement in both
response times to complaints of sex related litter and the overall
cleanliness of the area. This increased efficiency has allowed the
service to invest more time and resource on general cleansing and
environmental work within in Holbeck as a whole.
2014/15 £10,000
2015/16 £20,000
2016/17 £29,000
2017/18 £29,000
2018/19 * (Estimated costs based on spend to date) £16,000
