Dear Miss Michaels,

I write further to your Freedom of Information request I.D. 2200 and give
our response below.

1. The total number of staff that accessed University counselling and
mental health services in the last eight academic years (please present in
a table showing figures for each academic year and breakdown by category
(e.g. anxiety, bereavement loss, work-related etc...))

a) How many were academic staff?

b) How many were professional services staff?

c) How many were male?

d) How many were female?

The University operates an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) through an
external provider and as such we have no control over this data.  Staff
refer themselves to the service but whether they receive structured
counselling would depend on the assessment made by the external provider.
The data below was supplied by our provider and summarises the number of
staff referrals they made to structured counselling sessions.  This is the
only data we hold as the reports received from the provider are not broken
down into sub-groups or gender.

November 2013 - October 2014 - 25

November 2014 - October 2015 - 75

November 2015 - October 2016 - 60

November 2016 - April 2017 – 42 [2 quarters remain]

2. Where data are available in the last eight years, please detail what
was the average wait time for a staff member applying to see a counsellor
to seeing a counsellor?

See above.  This service is outsourced to an external provider.  The
University does not hold this information.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH

3. During the last eight academic years how many staff members were
referred to Occupational Health (please highlight whether these were
self-referrals, management referrals, or referrals falling into different
categories)?

a) How many were academic staff?

b) How many were professional services staff?

c) How many were male?

d) How many were female?

We are only able to provide data from January 2013 onwards as prior to
this our in-house OH Nurse did not complete electronic records.  Please
note that these figures refer to the number of referrals made and not the
number of staff members receiving a referral.  There may be more than one
referral for a member of staff.

2013

In 2013 referrals were categorised into Management Referrals,
Self-Referrals and HR Referrals but this was the final year we did this.
