Dear Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council,

As the government’s advisor on the historic environment, Historic England recommend that local planning authorities may set up conservation area advisory committees which should consist mostly of non-local authority people who represent the interests of residents and businesses and who are able to bring expertise or understanding of the area's history and amenity. The principal purpose of an Advisory Committee is to provide voluntary, independent advice on conservation matters to the Council.

The Committee could be made up of representatives from various professional bodies including the Royal Institute of British Architects, representatives from local amenity groups and parish councillors.

A considerable part of the Advisory Committee’s work is to comment on planning applications and other applications received within Conservation Areas or which are considered to affect their setting.
Would you be able to provide information as to?
• Does the authority have a Conservation Area Advisory Committee providing advice on behalf of conservation areas and the historic environment?
• Please state the name of the advisory group
• Please state the aims and objective
• The date the committee was established
• The date of its last meeting
• Contact details if available
Yours faithfully,
Thank you
Ian Harvey
